Commencement Ceremony Overview
At 10 a.m. on May 22, 2021, Franklin College celebrated its Commencement Ceremony as 194 undergraduates and 25 graduate students prepared to enter the next stage of their academic and professional journeys. Billie Dragoo was honored as the keynote speaker, delivering an address grounded in resilience, leadership, and service, anchored by the motto that has guided her throughout her life, “and yet here you are.”
Leadership, Integrity, and Lifelong Resilience
Drawing on decades of experience in recruitment, healthcare workforce solutions, and business leadership, Dragoo shared insights on building a meaningful career, taking informed risks, and becoming “comfortable with the uncomfortable” in rapidly changing environments. She emphasized the importance of ethical decision-making and long-term impact, stating: “It matters how you play the game. We need you to act with courage and integrity. To become known as a person who will never sacrifice their principles and values for short-term gains. We need you to seek out and discover the truth in every situation and to act in ways that benefit us all. Finally, we need you to show humility.”
Honorary Doctorate Recognition
In addition to delivering the keynote address, Dragoo was awarded an Honorary Doctorate of Humane Letters from Franklin College in recognition of her leadership, entrepreneurial achievements, and commitment to community and workforce development.
