Your Mental and Physical Health

Mental health can factor into many parts of our life, and being physically fit can help your mental health in many ways.

Mental health and physical health go hand in hand. It is important to remember that your mind and body are connected.

Nearly one in three people with a long-term physical health condition also has a mental health problem. Most often this is anxiety or depression. Depression can come with headaches, fatigue, and digestive problems, and anxiety. In more severe cases, these mental health conditions can also cause insomnia.

Mental health conditions can arise from many factors. These can include genetics, low motivation, difficulty with concentration, lack of support, and not seeking medical help or having that availability.

Genetics could play a part in mental health conditions and may play a crucial role in your physical health problems. Having low motivation can often make it difficult to take care of yourself and find the energy to complete tasks. If you are struggling with concentration and planning, this can make it difficult to schedule medical appointments to receive the necessary care. It’s important that we have support from family members and/or professionals.

With that said, there are many things you can do to take care of yourself mentally and physically. Exercise is a great way to remain physically fit while also giving your mind a break and improving your overall mental wellbeing. Exercising releases endorphins in the brain meaning that even going on a ten-minute walk can be quite beneficial and can improve your overall mood. Another great way to remain healthy is to make good food choices and finding a balanced diet. The food we put into our bodies can influence the development and prevention of many mental health conditions.

Seeking help can arguably be the most important factor. If you are struggling and being affected by your mental health, it is important to seek help immediately from your family and or a professional.
